FAQS
1. I’m enrolling my child for the first time, but am not sure where to start. What do I do?
If you would like information on enrolling your child, click on the New Students link in the left column of this web page. If you have questions not answered on our web page or difficulty downloading our forms, please call the Burkholder Administrative Center at (888) 662-8801 and we’ll be glad to provide information and mail you the proper paperwork.
2. What if we’re coming from a different district?
If you are coming from a different district, you will need to authorize a Request and Consent to Release Educational Records form so that we can contact your previous school and have them send us your student’s records. Please click on Enrollment Forms in the left menu column or call the Burkholder Administrative Center at (888) 662-8801 to receive a form.
3. To whom do I give my new address and phone number?
Please make sure your school secretary has an up-to-date address and current phone number for you. At any time during the year, if your address or phone number changes, please let the secretary know.
4. Are there any medical requirements I should know about before enrolling?
Please be aware that any student up to the age of 9 entering school for the first time in the state of Kansas shall, prior to admission, be required to present the results of a health assessment conducted within 12 months of school entry by a physician or other health care provider as approved by the state of Kansas (KSA 72-5214). As an alternative to the health assessment, the student shall present a written statement signed by a parent or guardian that the child is an adherent of a religious denomination whose religious teachings are opposed to such assessment.
Students who have not met the state health assessment requirement as outlined above will be excluded from school one week after parent notification and will remain excluded until the health assessment is completed.
BHS FAQs
1. How can I set up my parent account on Power School?
To set up your account, you will need your Guardian Power School user names and passwords for each of your students if more than one attends BHS. Most students know these because students used these last April to enter their class requests. Once you have this information, go to the Buhler High homepage and click on Power School in the right menu column. When the screen appears, do not enter the user name and password. Go to the bottom and click on CREATE AN ACCOUNT. This will take you through the process of creating one account to view all of your children's Power School information. If you do not have the Guardian user names and passwords, you may contact your student's school after August 1st for assistance.
2. How can I check my student’s attendance and/or grades online?
Guardians can contact the main office to receive an online PowerSchool log-on ID and password to view both grades and attendance records online. Once you set up your Guardian Power School account (see #1 above), you can view grades, past years’ grades, attendance as well as assignments, etc.
3. What is the difference between an extenuated absence and an excused absence?
An absence is considered excused when a parent/guardian calls or sends a note to excuse. An extenuated absence is due to reasons beyond a student’s control, such as a funeral. Students must bring appointment cards/schedule cards to the office in order to have doctor/dental appointments considered extenuated.

2. What is the PHMS policy concerning make-up work following an absence?
An excused absence or an authorized school activity allows the student the privilege of making up the work for grade or credit within a reasonable amount of time, but does not excuse the student from the makeup work. In the case of excused absences, class work is to be made up prior to leaving when possible. Students will have the number of days absent plus one to make up work missed. Please refer to page 3 in the student handbook (Buhler USD 313 Attendance Policy).

5. How does my child get chosen as Student of the Week?
Students chosen will have exemplified high standards of citizenship and participation in our school. Students often want to know how they can earn this award. There is no easy answer to this question. It is an award that is “bestowed” rather than earned. Each week teachers nominate students who have been noticed helping Prairie Hills move toward a school of excellence. Even though last year we recognized nearly 160 students, some very positive students were probably not nominated. Please be assured that we appreciate your student’s contributions to Prairie Hills. This recognition is one of many ways we try to show it.
